Reservoir and Moors walk
ROCHDALE
PARKING-Car park Newhey, Rochdale OL26 3TQ
MILES- 7 miles but shorter walks available
FACILITIES- Toilets, cafe/pub nearby
TERRAIN-Some Moorland walking, maintained paths and some muddy sections
Various walks from Easy to Medium in difficulty
This is a fantastic walk with trails suitable for everyone, the main audio trail is 3.5 miles although it seems more like 5 miles, with various paths off the main route to explore, which is what we did to add in the other reservoirs.
The walk starts at Ogden reservoir on a good path then passes
Kitcliffe reservoir, we took a path over the stile on the right hand side before Piethorne Reservoir and followed the path past Hanging lees reservoir and up to Rooden reservoir, where the kids loved sledging down the hill, in fact it is the best area we have sledged.
From here we followed the path down towards Piethorne reservoir and stopped near the waterfall for a snack.
We followed the Rochdale way past Norman Hill reservoir
and Rag hole farm ruins.
This was a great path but we did use the Map to find the trail down through the farmers field to Ogden Reservoir making it a nice circular and coming up at 7.5 miles with 1555ft ascent.
You can just walk the length of the reservoirs and return the same way if you have a all terrain pram this would be suitable.
