From the National trust car park you head to the back of the car park and a wide path  runs along great langdale beck, this path is prone to flooding so might not be good after heavy rain.

We have visited Elterwater in all weathers and its always beauiful. The path follows the river and then opens up into a quiet lake with a back drop of the mountains. The path is great and level, often see people on bikes, scooters, the path does have small stones on.

The path continues through woodland and leads to a beautiful  open field. At the end, there is a slope to a gate into woodland and the stunning waterfall Skelwith Force.

Its hard to get a clear view of the waterfall, thankfully the husband and kids walked down to it so i could see on a photo. You can turn around at this point or continue a little further to Chesters cafe for a cake or hot drink.
