TERRAIN-SOME STONE PITCHED PATHS, MOORLAND, ROUGH SECTIONS IN PLACES

The Roaches  is in the Peak District gem;  The impressively rugged and steep stone  ridge is home to mythical mermaids and is natural gritstone clefts, which is popular with professional rock climbers

It groups together two main grit stone outcrops, 'Ramshaw Rocks' famous for the 'Winking Man' rock formation and 'Hen Cloud' .

We parked in Hollins bank car park. the path went from the back of the car park across the slopes of Stanage edge, lots of rocky outcrops, but the path is clear just a little rough in places.

As we got to the top of the incline there was large boulders to climb on, but another day we chose was really windy so we didn't hang around too much.

We turned left and followed the trail until we reached a shelter to stop at for a snack, then we headed towards the rocks where the trig point sat, we returned the same way, but on a nice day you can follow this path and walk to Bamford edge, or return the same way to the starting point but before you drop down continue forward towards Stanage pole, which features more rock outcrops to scramble on.

This is a great fun walk to keep the kids entertained with one incline at the start but once at the summit its a gentle walk.
