OUTDOOR WITH THE WOODALLS

THE WEST HIGHLAND WAY

96 MILE WALK FROM MILNGAVIE TO   FORT WILLIAM  ONE OF SCOTLAND BEST LONG DISTANCE HIKES IF NOT THE BEST IN THE UK

OUR FIRST LONG DISTANCE HIKE, IN MAY 2019 ARIYA WAS 3.5 YEARS THE YOUNGEST TO EVER WALK THE WAY HERSELF, NIYAH WAS 8 AND REO 10

DAY 1 MILNGAVIE TO DRYMEN CAMPING

11 MILES

EASY DAY, GOOD SOLID PATHS, HALF WAY PUB WITH PLAY AREA.

HONESTY BOW 2 MILES BEFORE CAMPING SITE.

THE LAST 2 MILES WAS THE HARDEST AND EXTRA CARE NEEDED AS ITS WALKING ON A TARMAC ROAD

DAY 2 DRYMEN TO CASHEL CAMP SITE

9 MILES

ANOTHER GOOD DAY ON GOOD PATHA WITH A FINAL STEEP CLIMB UP CONIC HILL, BUT WORTH IT FOR THE VIEWS OF LOCH LOMOND.

CASHEL CAMPSITE HAS PLAY AREA AND A SHOP

DAY 3 CASHEL CAMPSITE TO ROWARDENNAN

4.5 MILES

WE STAYED AT BEN LOMOND LODGE AS WE OPTED FOR A SHORT REST DAY TO PREPARE FOR THE TOUGH PATHS AHEAD.

FOREST TRAIL BEGINS AND VIEWS OF LOCH LOMOND, NO DIFFICULT WALKING, AND GREAT BEING ABLE TO HAVE A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP IN A BED AND SHOWER.

MIDGES FIRST APPEARED TODAY

DAY 4 ROWARDENNAN TO INVERSNAID BUNKHOUSE

7.5 MILES

THIS SECTION FEELS ALOT LONGER DUE TO THE TERRAIN, LOTS OF STEPS, INCLINES/DECLINES, EXTRA CARE NEEDED WITH THE UNEVEN PATHS.

GREAT BEACHES TO STOP AT ALONG THE WAY.

THE LAST MILE IS STEEP UPHILL BUT IF YOU RING THE BUNKHOUSE ( IF STAYING THERE) THEY WILL COLLECT YOU

DAY 5 INVERSNAID BUNKHOUSE TO BEINGLASS FARM

8.5 MILES

THIS IS THE MOST DIFFICULT DAY IN THE SENSE OF TERRAIN, IT WAS ALSO ONE OF OUR FAVOURITE DAYS. ROB ROYS CAVE WE VISITED TOO.

YOU HAVE THE OPTION OF THE UPPER PATH WHICH IS LESS RUGGED OR THE LOWER PATH.

WE CHOSE THE LOWER PATH, GREAT VIEWS OF THE LOCH BUT CARE NEEDED ON THE PATHS WITH SOME STEEPNESS, TOUGH TERRAIN.

ONCE AWAY FROM THE LOCH YOU WILL SPOT THE BOTHAY IN THE DISTANCE WHICH IS A GREAT PLACE TO HAVE A REST BEFORE THE FINAL PUSH TO BEINGLASS. THIS SECTION WAS MORE DIFFICULT THAT EXPECTED AND LONGER, WITH FINAL INCLINE WHICH FELT MUCH STEEPER THAN IT WAS.

BEINGLASS FARM HAS A SHOP, DRYING ROOM AND RESTAURANT

DAY 6 BEINGLASS FARM TO TYNDRUM

9.8 MILES

WE STAYED AT STRATHFILLIAN WIGWAMS WHICH HAS A SHOP AND DOES BREAKFAST.

GREAT PATHS BUT WE HAD TORRENTIAL RAIN ALL DAY, GOT SOAKED SO DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION TO OUR SURROUNDINGS WE JUST WALKED AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE. NO SHOPS BUT A HONESTY BOX ON ROUTE.

THE KIDS ALSO GOT THEIR SPONSORED T SHIRTS FROM THE WALKERS CLUB

DAY 7 TYNDRUM TO BRIDGE OF ORCHY

8.7  MILES

WILD CAMPING AT BRIDGE OF ORCHY. AMAZING WALK OVER RANNOCH MOOR, GREAT VIEWS AND KIDS STILL WORE TRAINERS AS BOOTS WERE NOT DRY, THE ONLY DOWNSIDE TO CAMPING.

TYNDRUM HAS SHOPS AND CAFE, BUT NOTHING OVER RANNOCH MOOR UNTIL YOU REACH GLENCOE SKI RESORT

DAY 8 BRIDGE OF ORCHY TO GLENCOE SKI RESORT

12 MILES

AMAZING WALK OVER RANNOCH MOOR. NO SHOPS ALONG THE WAY. WE HAD LOVELY WEATHER THANKFULLY AS NO SHELTER ON THIS WALK EITHER, GREAT VIEWS ONCE YOU REACH GLENCOE.

GLENCOE SKI RESORT HAD FOOD, DRINKS

DAY 9 GLENCOE SKI RESORT TO KINLOCHLEVEN

10 MILES

GREAT WALK UP THE DEVILS STAIR CASE, IT IS STEEP BUT ENJOYABLE WALK, THEN A VERY STEEP DECENT INTO KINLOCHLEVEN.

NO SHOPS ON THE WAY BUT IN KINLOCHLEVEN THERE IS SHOPS, PUB AND RESTAURANT. CAN ALSO STOCK UP AT GLENCOE SKI RESTORT

DAY 10 KINLOCHLEVEN TO FORT WILLIAM

15 MILES

NO SHOPS ALONG THE WAY, TOUGH SECTION AND LONG DAY, MORE SO BECAUSE WE HAD RAIN, NO VISIBILITY FOR MOST OF THE WALK, BUT LUCKILY THE PATHS WERE GOOD AND EASY TO FOLLOW. WE STOPPED A FEW TIMES AND GOT SOAKED BUT THE ADRENALINE OF FINISHING KEPT US GOING. THE VIEWS OPENED UP NEAR  FORT WILLIAM SO WE FINISHED THE WALK WITH A LITTLE BIT OF SUNSHINE.

SO PROUD OF THE KIDS TODAY AS IT WAS TOUGH BUT THEY KEPT GOING
